Pacific Song Competition – 2015 Third Year Spectacular!

The Pacific Song Competition is now entering it’s fourth year of operation, with the 2015 competition just finished.

The results for 2015 were a true representation of the Asia-Pacific’s diversity of song and culture.

The third placegetter was a catchy Electronic Dance piece, Lampu Aladin, sung by Uwell and composed by Beppe from Indonesia.  Second was a Hard-rock song, Forever, composed and sung by Gate 9 out of Adelaide, Australia.

The Winner for 2015 was an anti-corruption message, Mister Ni-Vanuatu, written and performed by four-man group Parallel in true boy-band style, from Vanuatu, live at the Lukaotem Gud Santo Festival in Espiritu Santo in November.

Other entries this year included 2 young composers from Sydney Australia with a pop dance piece, a Syrian rapper from Nauru, a country school entry choreographed from Sapa, Vietnam, Pacific ballads and hard rock entries from Australia – 11 songs in all from 5 countries for this year’s Pacific Song Competition.

This song competition is different from most others in it’s inspiration, aims and methodology.

The competition does not have a theme or required song structure, rather it seeks to embrace the diversity of the countries around the Pacific Ocean, from New Zealand and Australia in the south-west, up to Russia and Canada in the north and down to Ecuador and Chile in the south-east.

By embracing a very low cost internet-based operating vehicle, with volunteer judges, the PSC is able to allow anyone to enter the competition.  There is no cost barrier to enter.  The competition is country based, but the competition is truly more about the individual artists, their songs and stories and their talent.  The PSC final series takes place by Web-stream set in a virtual stadium.

The aim of the competition is to take these musicians and performers and to give them a world stage that they might otherwise not be able to attain.

The low cost of entry means that any performer who has an original song can enter, simply by shooting a video on their phone or tablet.  The competition in 2016 is looking for a music and production sponsor, who will be able to take the winners and produce professional video and audio tracks for them for the global market.

From very small beginnings in 2012, with two judges and three songs from Australia, the PSC now has five country juries, with entries in 2015 from five countries and pledges of more in 2016.

The Pacific Song Competition will be looking for entries in March 2016 and needs community and sponsor involvement to grow.
